Identification of Remediation Options for Mercury Contamination

Scope of work

• The Vendor shall undertake the following activities: • review the various key supporting documents and reports provided by the Ministry in order to identify and describe technically feasible remediation options to reduce the historical mercury contamination in the river system, mitigate mercury methylation and methylmercury uptake by aquatic biota, and the reduction of mercury concentrations in fish traditionally consumed by the First Nations communities and assess all options against specified parameters; • provide high-level cost estimates and projected timelines for each of the options identified under (a) above; • seek and consider input on desired outcomes in respect of the remediation from the First Nations communities impacted by the mercury contamination and the Ministry. The Vendor shall also seek input from other entities, as appropriate, who may have sediment remediation expertise, or have relevant information; • determine if additional field work is required in order to identify technically feasible remediation options and if additional field work is required, undertake such work or provide oversight to the First Nations who will be conducting such work; and • review the various monitoring studies that have been undertaken to date and develop a long-term monitoring plan to monitor levels of mercury and other relevant parameters in the River System.
